A simple recipe for cinnamon cookies

Although cinnamon is a common ingredient in sweet baked goods, some find it difficult to tolerate the taste as it tends to dominate, not only in taste but also with its intense and characteristic aroma! So if you want to bake these cookies to invite your friends, make sure they have no problem with cinnamon.

The general recommendation when baking this cinnamon cookie recipe is to remember that the ingredients must be at room temperature and that the quantities must be exact. Here’s what you need and how to bake them step by step.

Ingredients for a recipe for cinnamon cookies

  • 1 egg
  • Salt (a pinch)
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • 300 grams of white flour
  • 150 grams of white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 extra tablespoon of sugar and 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon to sprinkle on top
  • 130 grams of butter, slightly warmer than room temperature (with a consistency similar to mayonnaise)

Preparation of the dough step by step

  1. To make the dough, start by beating the butter together with the sugar in a bowl until it is white and fluffy. You can do it by hand or with a mixer or electric beater.
  2. Then add the egg and beat it until you have a homogeneous batter.
  3. Mix flour with cinnamon, baking powder, and salt and sift them into a bowl.
  4. Add these ingredients half at a time to the batter using a sieve to avoid lumps.
  5. Mix with a spatula with large strokes. You may need to use your hands to mix the dough completely.
  6. Knead for 5 minutes until the dough is shiny and soft.
  7. Then wrap it in plastic wrap and let it rest for 40 minutes in the refrigerator. When the dough has rested, it will be easier to shape the cookies.

Shape the cookies

  • After the dough has rested, make sure you have a clean sink and sprinkle some flour on it (use enough so the dough doesn’t stick). Start rolling out the dough evenly using a rolling pin.
  • When you have a dough about a centimeter thick, you can use a round cookie measure to make the cookies. That way they all get the same size. Re-knead any remaining dough, roll out and repeat the process until all the dough is used.
  • Another method you can use to shape your cookies is to roll small balls of the same size and then flatten them with your hands until they are the same thickness. With this technique, the cookies will not be perfect like the last option, but it will be faster to make them. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees while you shape your cookies.
  • Then mix the sugar with the cinnamon in a bowl and sprinkle this evenly on top of the cookies.
  • Place them on a greased tray (the side with the sugar and cinnamon should be facing up) and place them in the oven for 15 minutes.
  • After this time, check that they are ready and remove them from the heat. Once they have cooled, they are prepared to eat.
